Quick answer: eye realism comes from depth, not color alone

Irontech builds the eye in layers: a toned polymer sclera, a three-dimensional hand-carved iris, painted color variation and pupil depth, then a clear protective finish. The result is intended to reflect light and show more depth than a flat printed iris.

How the eye is made

Each manufacturing step changes the final appearance.

STEP 1

Polymer sclera

The base color is blended toward a natural eye white and molded smooth. Soft clay is used as the pupil base for more precise sculpting.

STEP 2

Hand-carved iris

The iris is sculpted with three-dimensional structure instead of being treated as a flat color image inside resin.

STEP 3

Layered color and pupil

Irontech says experienced makeup artists paint iris color variation and complete the eye with a deeper pupil.

STEP 4

UV-cured resin protection

A clear pupil cover and resin coating round the eye, add shine and reflection, and are UV-cured to improve abrasion resistance.

Choose eye type with the head type

Mechanical Eyes: can only be used on hard heads and are easier to reposition.
Hemisphere Eyes: are used with Soft, ROS, and ROS MAX heads.

Replacement and adjustment are not the same on every head

Mechanical eyes are designed for easier position adjustment on hard heads. Irontech warns against frequently replacing hemisphere eyes because removal and reinsertion can damage the soft head or disturb surrounding makeup.
